Spring Season Discovers Lurking Devastation

By Gersha | March 18, 2008

Every year, the spring season brings on new beginnings. As people gear up for the buying/selling season, even the most savvy homeowners will most likely be shocked to hear that potential pests could be lurking behind their walls or beneath their soil – and that millions of homeowners discover termite and ant infestations during routine home inspection when buying and selling a home.

Termites are America’s $5 billion pest problem, yet they’re rarely brought into the limelight probably because it’s just plain gross to talk about bugs. As for nuisance ants, they may be one of the most sociable animals on earth but no one wants them at their next dinner party. We all know that bugs aren’t as glamorous as the new trends in kitchen design or as beautiful as a remodeled garden, but North Carolina is considered a moderate to heavy risk of termite infestation. As for ants, there are ten different species that can potentially threaten homes. Because termites and ants can strike without warning, even the most beautiful, well-kept homes are at risk for invasion.

At the Termite Institute (www.TermiteInstitute.com) and the Ant Institute (www.antinstitute.com), the web’s premier destinations for learning about two of America’s most common household pests, our mission is to inform new and seasoned homeowners about identifying, preventing and solving their termite and ant problems.

New in 2008, both websites feature live web cameras that vividly simulate what it would be like for your readers if termites and ants invaded their homes. Also of interest are interactive maps that show website visitors the potential species of termites and ants in their state; robust media libraries that offer high-resolution photos and engaging videos (think termite battling an ant!); solutions sections that identify the best ways to rid homes of these problems; and news functions that feature the latest termite and ant news.

If you like, I can supply you with information for a quick blurb or a list of quick tips for prevention. Furthermore, I can connect you with a pest professional who can comment and give very useful advice to your readers. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me for more information.

Something New

By Gersha | December 5, 2007

By Gersha Porter

Sports have been around for all the ages. But today for most children it is organized under the umbrella of a recreation council, school, or amateur athletic union (AAU).

My kids are at it again! As usual my daughter is involved in AAU and school basketball; my son in recreation league indoor lacrosse, wrestling, and school basketball (and if you ask him, he’s involved in 3 other sports - skateboarding, dirt bike riding and BMX bike riding).

Check my son out in his first ever wrestling match.

Sports teach kids lots of things- discipline- mastering new techniques or plays; encouragement-cheering on teammates when winning or loosing the game; patience- while waiting for their turn to wrestle or a chance to get off the bench; time management- completing the many assignments required of school before heading off to weekday practices; and making new friends.

Sports provide an opportunity for social, emotional, and physical growth- a worthwhile investment in every parent/guardian’s time and money. And the friends and family come to cheer them on- what a confidence booster!

What are you doing to develop your skills, talents, competence or flair? Consider committing to “something new” in 2008!
